Peter's letter is dedicated to the Kyiv Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

The Junior Academy of Science of Ukraine has a long history of providing extracurricular programs to students from elementary to high school level and beyond. With a rich history that spanned seventy years and with the unrelenting dedicated support of many teachers the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has become a beacon of light for children and students throughout Ukraine and the world.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Junior Academy of Sciences in Kyiv in the mid 1990s during a remarkable program referred to as the Collaborative Ukrainian Experiment (CUE) which was part of the US Space Shuttle mission that included a Ukrainian Cosmonaut Col. Leonid Kadenyuk. Many students and teachers from the United States and Ukraine participated in this program. It was through my good friend and your science education mentor, Dr. Volodymyr Nazarenko that introduced me to the Junior Academy of Sciences in Kyiv. I witnessed many, many students and teachers working on projects and participating in various programs that made me realize that this was a unique place of metamorphosis, the transformation of school children and students into young adult scientists and educators. They are what our world and our planet needs to help correct mistakes of previous generations and create a healthier planet that sustains all life.

Today, the sovereign nation of Ukraine is at war. A deranged, delusional, criminal autocrat invaded Ukraine on February 24th without any provocation and in an unjustified way. The loss of precious life and harm to your nation will be answered by defeating the perpetrators and justly convicting them of crime against humanity. My country, USA, European Union, NATO and many other countries throughout the world condemn this aggression and stand by Ukraine and together will defeat this aggressor.

In this tragic hour, the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine becomes an even more important organization that will create a platform that will launch many young students not only into the amazing world of science and environmental education but as the next leaders in our world that will seek peace, justice, and a sustainable planet for all life.

I would like to take this moment to congratulate the students and teachers of the Kyiv Junior Academy of Sciences for their past achievements and a future of incredible work with continued achievements.

Мала академія наук України має довгу історію надання позакласних програм для учнів від початкової до старшої школи та не тільки. З багатою історією, що налічує сімдесят років, і за невпинної самовідданої підтримки багатьох викладачів Мала академія наук України стала світлом для дітей та студентів по всій Україні та всьому світу.

Я мав задоволення відвідати Малу академію наук у Києві в середині 1990-х років під час чудової програми під назвою «Спільний український експеримент» (CUE), яка була частиною місії космічних човників США, до якої входив український космонавт, полковник Леонід Каденюк. У цій програмі взяли участь багато студентів та викладачів із США та України. Саме через мого доброго друга та вашого наставника з наукової освіти, доктора Володимира Назаренка, я познайомився з Малою академією наук у Києві. Я був свідком роботи багатьох студентів та викладачів, які працювали над проектами та брали участь у різноманітних програмах, завдяки чому я усвідомив, що це унікальне місце метаморфоз, перетворення школярів та студентів на молодих дорослих науковців та педагогів. Це те, що потрібно нашому світу і нашій планеті, щоб допомогти виправити помилки попередніх поколінь і створити більш здорову планету, яка підтримує все життя.

Сьогодні суверенний народ України знаходиться у стані війни. 24 лютого без жодної провокації та невиправданим способом вторгся в Україну божевільний, оманливий, злочинний автократ. Відповідь на втрату дорогоцінного життя та шкоди для вашої нації буде поразкою винних і справедливим засудженням їх у злочині проти людства. Моя країна, США, Європейський Союз, НАТО та багато інших країн по всьому світу засуджують цю агресію і стоять на боці України і разом ми переможемо агресора.

У цю трагічну годину Мала академія наук України стає ще важливішою організацією, яка створить платформу, яка запустить багато молодих студентів не лише у дивовижний світ науки та екологічної освіти, а й як наступних лідерів у нашому світі, які прагнутимуть миру, справедливості та стабільної планети для всього життя.

Скориставшись моментом, я хочу привітати вихованців та викладачів Київської Малої академії наук з їхніми минулими досягненнями та майбутньою неймовірною роботою з подальшими досягненнями.
